Born of the Hills.
Built for the World
We connect you to the Virunga volcanoes, Lake Mutanda, and the Bafumbira and Batwa communities who call this land home.
Experience the True Spirit of Kisoro
Kalorero Tours and Travels was born in the hills of Kisoro, in the far southwestern corner of Uganda, where three countries meet and the Virunga volcanoes rise into the clouds.
Our founder grew up here, among the Bafumbira people, in a home where the day began with mist over Lake Mutanda and ended with stories told by firelight. As a boy, he walked these hills long before he ever called them a destination. He knew which ridge caught the first light of morning, which market sold the sweetest matoke, and which elders still remembered the old songs of the Batwa, the first people of this forest.
When he left Kisoro to study and later to work across Uganda's tourism industry, he carried these hills with him. He watched travelers arrive from around the world in search of mountain gorillas and crater lakes, often led by guides who knew the wildlife but not the water, the itinerary but not the history.
So he came back. Not simply to guide, but to build something lasting.
Kalorero Tours and Travels is the result — a company run by someone who does not just sell the district. He belongs to it.
The name Kalorero is his own, drawn from the sounds and rhythms of home, a word he shaped to carry a simple meaning: to call, to gather, to bring people together across distance. It reflects what every journey with us is meant to do — call travelers home to a place, and to a way of seeing the world, they did not know they were looking for.

Guided by people who never left
From here, not just working here
Our team was raised in Kisoro. We do not read the destination from a guidebook, we grew up inside it.
Small groups, real access
We keep our trips intimate, meaning closer encounters, better guiding, and less impact on the land.
Seamless border crossings
Kisoro sits at the meeting point of Uganda, Rwanda, and DRC. We handle the logistics of multi-country travel so you do not have to.
Community first
A share of every booking supports local guiding jobs, Batwa community initiatives, and conservation around Bwindi and Mgahinga.
No middlemen. You book directly with the people who plan, guide, and know the ground. What you pay goes back into the place you are visiting.
